Nagpur / Kochi: Dr.
Dhanjay Sagdeo, born and grew up in Nagpur and now served in the Wayanad district in Kerala, accepting the honor of Padma Shri at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.
Speaking to Toi as soon as the ceremony, he said, “I feel more humble after seeing and knowing fellow Padma recipients.” “People’s Padma is a new concept that brings many unknown personalities to protect.
These big creatures have dedicated their lifetime for several reasons.
It is an honor to be one of them,” Dr.
Sagdeo said.
Dr.
Sagdeo, who served the tribe, said it was “life mission” and “it will continue”.
“I feel lucky that the work done by me was noted.
Finally, it worked the team.
I have received awards for all teams involved in the Vivekananda medical mission that works in Indian Tribal,” he added.
Dr.
Sagdeo said that he would advance his mission to empower the tribal community by giving them health, education and making it independent.
Chasing awards as the biggest recognition of his service, Dr.
Sagdeo said he hoped to celebrate with the Vivekananda team and the tribes he had given four decades.
“I am happy that I can personally meet with the main leaders of our nation at the award ceremony.
Narendra Modiji met with each recipient and gave me a pat on the back while talking.
Even though it was a short interaction, it was the biggest boost to continue my work , “said Sagdeo.
While many Padma recipients chose to wear their respective traditional country clothes, Dr.
Sagdeo went to gather his award from President Ram Nath Kovind in a shirt and a simple half-sleeved shirt.
“There is no discussion about what I have to use in my family.
I use the same type of clothing every day so there is nothing special for the Padma ceremony,” he said.
Dr.
Sagdeo accompanied by his wife Sujatha and Daughter Dr.
Gayatri who did post graduation at AIIMS Patna.
His brother WG CDR Vinay Sagdeo was also present at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
“It was a moment of life for all of us when he lined up to the podium.
Vice President Dr.
Venkaiiah Naidu, PM Narendra Modi and the others welcomed him.
He has an ovasi stand,” said WG CDR Sagdeo.
He said Covid’s pandemic had affected his work.
Dr.
Sagdeo now plans to change the five-point project that will focus on the health of the tribe, education, independence, moral values, and social inclusion.
“In addition to the vaccination program and Covid consciousness, there is a need to strengthen the work associated with vaccination of pneumococcal and sickle cell disease as well.
We have helped the government with this.
Like PM Modi calling for Atmanibharata, tribal people must be skilled to achieve independence.
Educational training and Skills is the best way to do that, “said Sagdeo.
Dr.
Sagdeo and the family will soon return to Muttil in Wayanad (Kerala) where it is currently based after a stopover in Nagpur.
