Udhagamandalam: A elephant calf was discovered dead in Segur array of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve’s (MTR) buffer station on Saturday.
Forest area staff discovered the carcass in Ogili Saragam.
Forest vet conducted postmortem on Sunday.
The female elephant has been one-and-a-half years old, stated deputy manager of MTR buffer station L C S Srikanth.
“No outside injuries have been uncovered.
Preliminary postmortem report revealed gastrointestinal rupture and severe internal bleeding.
The inner injury could have been caused as a result of accidental collapse or assault by a different group,” he explained.
Samples were gathered from the carcass for laboratory evaluations.
The carcass was made in the woods for organic decay.
A pregnant elephant had been found dead from the buffer station on May 25.
