Coimbatore: Officials of the Department of Forest trying to revive a female elephant who collapsed on private land in the village of Periya Thagam here on Sunday.
Elephants over 40 years old.
It was a local villagers who saw female elephants collapsing on the land of the Patta near the Kiln Brick unit on Sunday morning.
They told the forest front line staff, which, led by Ranger R Arsunkumar, rushed to the place and covered the elephant with a wet burlap sack.
They also installed Shamiana to protect the elephants from the sun and possibly dehydration.
T K ASHOK KUMAR, District Forest Officer, Coimbatore Forest Division, said veterinarian had given salt and glucose on sick elephants.
“We have provided watermelon and some nutritious balls made of turmeric, acid, jaggery and salt for animals.
Initially, the elephant showed a slight increase.
But it becomes very weak later.
Elephants cannot stand alone.” Veterinary Assistant Surgeon K Rajesh Kumar (Mudumalai Tiger Reserve) and the team has given drugs to the animal.
“We have tried lifting animals with the help of Earthmover, but in vain.
We are very elephant monitoring and trying to revive,” Ashok Kumar said.
