KABUL: The player from the Afghan women’s national football team has a “important victory” on Tuesday when they are among a group of more than 75 people evacuated on flights from Kabul.
Union Global Football Player FIFPro thanked the Australian Government to make evacuation of players, team officials and family members as possible, with work that continues to help leave Afghanistan.
“These young women, both as athletes and activists, have been in a danger position and on behalf of their colleagues around the world, we thank the international community because they come to their assistance,” Uni said in a statement.
The Afghan team was created in 2007 in a country where women playing sports are seen as political actions denying the Taliban.
Players have been suggested this month to remove social media posts and their photos with the team to help avoid retaliation since the US Afghan government falls.
“The last few days are very stressful but today we have achieved an important victory,” said the former Khalida Popal captain’s team.
Popal is one of the FIFPro attorney teams and advisors who have worked with the authorities in six countries, including Australia, the US and Britain, to get their athletes and their families to the evacuation list and flight to a safe place.
“Women’s soccer players have been brave and strong in the moment of the crisis and we hope they will have a better life outside Afghanistan,” Popal said.
FIFPro Jonas Baer-Hoffmann Secretary General said evacuation had a “very complex process.” “Our hearts go to all the others who remain stranded in the country against their will,” he said.
