Patna: Deputy CM Tarkishore Prasad on Friday said ‘Swachhangini (a group of female sanitation workers for mechanical cleaning)’ initiatives will emerge as a source of inspiration for other urban local agencies because it not only produces work for women but also gives them independent.

Launching ‘Swachhangini’ at an event held jointly by Patna Municipal Corporation and UNFPA-Bihar, Deputy CM said the group that would run as an independent body would clear the waterways and septic tanks in the city mechanically.
“This initiative will help mobilize women to become their own leaders and also produce income tools for their social and economic livelihoods empowered and dignified,” he said.
Prasad handed the key to five jetting machines to representatives of each group of women’s sanitation workers from the Patna slums.
Jetting machines are obtained by PMC under the Corporation Safai Karamcharis scheme and national national development.
Deputy CM praised PMC and UNFPA for the development of slum areas and increased scavenger capacity.
He also appreciated the work done by PMC during the peak of Covid-19.
“The state and state government works with commitment to the development of urban areas, especially for lifting women,” said Prasad, added that many urban areas had been improved and new urban bodies were formed in the state.
As a result, the urban population has increased in the state, he added.
Minister of Development Nitin Nabin said the enthusiastic participation of women in such work would bring change in society.
Patna Mayor Sita Sahu said, “As mayor, I want that women must provide employment opportunities with respect.
We cannot imagine Patna’s growth without the development of sanitation workers and their families,” he said.
Commissioner of Himanshu City Sharma said special emphasis was placed on cleanliness through mechanical ways in the city.
The UNFPA-Bihar State Coordinator of Mohd Nadem Noor said this small effort would be proven to be a major initiative in the future.
