Mangaluru: The level of case fatality (CFR) Covid-19 in Dakshina Kannada has decreased highly compared to the first wave of pandemic.
The district reported 740 deaths as 34,441 cases in the first wave (between March 21 last year and February 28 this year).
The number of cases in the district increased to 73,516 in the second wave (between March 1 and August 22).
However, the number of deaths does not rise proportionally.
The district recorded 795 deaths on the second wave.
While the CFR was 2.1% in the first wave, down to 1% on the second wave.
While the district has reported 231 deaths in the age group 61-70 in the first wave, the number decreases to 219 on the second wave.
While the district recorded five deaths in the age group 0-20 in the first wave, not in the second wave.
However, the number of deaths among people in the age group 51-60 saw an increase in the second wave.
It was 146 and 180 in the first and second waves.
The district recorded maximum death in June this year – 282 deaths from 16,653 cases with CRF 1.6%.
In May, the district recorded 156 deaths (0.5%) of 31,090 cases, while 229 (3%) of 7,488 cases died in July.
According to health officials, comorbidity is a common reason for the majority of deaths in the district.
Patients who suffer from various comorbidity such as diabetics, hypertension, kidney-related diseases or other health problems must be received at the Covid or hospital treatment center immediately after being positively tested for Covid-19, Dr.

“We have followed the Ring-Surveillance method according to the direction of the District Administration to conduct tests for all positive people’s contacts.
This helps reduce the number of cases.
