New Delhi: After witnessing the growth of five consecutive quarters, global shipments Chromebook and Tablet recorded their first decline since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020.
According to the latest report by IDC research companies, Chromebook shipments fell 29.8% in the third quarter of 2021 (3Q21) with volume down to 6.5 million units while tablet shipments recorded a 9.4% year-on-year decline to 42.3 million units.
The reason for the decline in the chromebook and tablet segment, IDC reports revealed that increased expenditure in other categories weakened demand for Chromebook and tablet.
This decline also comes from a comparison with a strong third quarter in 2020 when shipping consumer devices peaked.
“Many schools and the government blew their budget to provide devices for distance learning and even consumers who are bought aggressively to study in 2020.
As a result, some saturation in the education market is expected in the near future,” said Anuroopa Nataraj, senior research analyst with trackers Mobility and Consumer Devices IDC.
The top five Chromebook companies on the Chromebook market, Lenovo appeared as a leader and sent the highest volume with 1.5 million shipping.

HP won fourth place with 1.1 million shipments and Samsung occupy fifth slots with 0.6 million shipments.
The top five companies on SegmentApple tablets continue to lead the segment with 14.7 million shipments and capture market share of 34.6%.
Samsung captured the second sport with 7.5 million units, followed by Amazon with 4.7 million units sent.
Lenovo came to the 5th place with 4.3 million units and Huawei came with 2.3 million units.
