Fine failed to inhibit the speed of pune-mumbai e-way

Pune: The death of three men in an accident involving six vehicles near Khopoli out of Pune-Mumbai Expressway on Monday morning lifting fears over the trend of the driver to accelerate beyond limits.
Until September, as many as 65 people lost their lives this year in an accident on the toll road.
Police said speeding beyond the limit had become the most common cause of accidents.
Police said speeding was also the cause of an accident on Monday.
Since January, officials of Highway Safety Patrol (HSP) from the Thane and Pune unit have sentenced 3.97 lakh riders on charges of breaking the speed limit on the toll road.
TimesViewSixty-five people have lost their lives in an accident at Pune-Mumbai Expressway from January 1 to September 30 this year.
In October, the accident on the toll road has claimed at least three lives.
Most of these accidents are the result of deductions over-speechting and lane, road safety patrol officials (HSP) say.
HSP data revealed that the fine RS39.75 Crore was collected from 3.97 Lakh riders who violated the speed limit from January to September this year.
This shows that the fine RS1,000 per violation failed to act as a deterrent.
It is time, the authorities increase a good amount and ensure a more stringent punishment for violator rules.
Motor vehicles and heavy vehicles should maintain a speed limit of less than 100kmph and 80kmph.
Last year, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, in connection with the NGO saved the foundation, installing a static camera that covered all toll road lines.
Apart from all such steps, accelerating beyond the limit remains a major challenge for the authorities.
The Director General of Police Additional (Traffic) Bhushhankumar Upadhyay told TII, “Excessive fast has been identified as the most common cause of accidents in Pune-Mumbai Expressway.
We have mobilized four volcanic vehicles and installed high-speed monitoring cameras on the toll road.” He Add, “We constantly punish offensive drivers.
However, motorists violate the speed limit and risk their lives.
Many buses and heavy vehicles are involved in speeding up, which is a big concern.
The police tried to keep them.”
