Silchar: Mission Jal Jeevan from Cachar District Administration on Monday submitted a quarter against members of the Democratic Barak Front (BDYF) at the Silchar Police Station for allegedly respecting Assamese language by attaching black ink to government banners near the Silchar train station on Saturday.
Police Supervisors (Cachar), Ramandeeep Kaur told TII on Monday that police complaints were received from Jal Jeevan’s mission at the DC office against a group suspected of being involved in attaching black ink on government banners in Silchar.
On this basis, the police have registered firmly against the group, Kaur said.
SP Kaur said no one was arrested until now.
However, the police launched an investigation into the incident as soon as FIR was registered.
The source said, BDYF, who was allegedly responsible for attaching black ink to Jal Jeevan Mission banners, written in Assamese language, demanded the complete revocation of Assam’s language when using banners for the promotion and publicity of the government scheme in the valley barracks.
They said, the government had to take part in the 1961 language package in which Bengali language was given official language status in the Valley of Barracks dominated by Bengali.
