Castaic, California: Firefighters made progress on fire who jumped across the southern California freeway and spread across the hillside slopes while the new fire forced the population of the North California community to be evacuated.
The fire broke on Saturday afternoon near Casaic in the North Los Angeles County.
Driven by wind 10-15mph (16-24 kph), the fire chew brushing and jumping across a busy freeway, spread over half a square mile.
The California highway patrols closed the interstate overtime for several hours because the air tanker dropped bright orange retarded on the flame.
Large flares sent dense smoke which floated into a freeway on Sunday afternoon, CHP reported.
Two firefighters were taken to the hospital to treat burns, Andrew Mitchell said, a spokesman for the National Forest Angeles.
Officials said the fire was around 63% contained on Sunday, adding that firefighters made advances overnight with the help of water drop aircraft and aggressive soil attacks, said Mitchell.
He said the crew would take advantage of the beginning of the cooling trend on Sunday to build a detention line.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
Meanwhile, the fire erupted on Sunday afternoon encouraged the authority of Mendocino County to evacuate the Calpella, a community on the Russian river of about 6 miles (10 kilometers) north of Ukiah.
The video recording posted on Twitter shows the fire pushes towards Lake Mendocino.
