Firefighters against 16 forest fires in Turkey, risky power plants

Milas, Turkey: Firefighters were struggling against 16 forest fires throughout Turkey on Wednesday, including one near the coal power plant, with high temperatures, low humidity and strong winds ferred on the flame.
In the past eight days, 167 fires were controlled, the Minister of Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli said.
On Tuesday night he said 11 fires were still burned, but further Blazes had broken.
Eight people were killed in the worst forest fires in the years and thousands of people were evacuated, including tourists.
Many fires broke near a large resort along the south coast.
A busyness near the coal power plant in the east of Bodrum in southwest Turkey is still burned, the local government said, after declaring a fire under previous control hours.
“The fire broke again near the Kemerkroy power plant,” said the Mayor’s Milas office.
Environmental lovers are worried about coal storage units and air pollution if the fire reaches the facility.
“The authorities refrain from not to tell the public about the threat scale.
Harmful gas can spread to the atmosphere if coal caught fire in an uncontrolled way,” said environmental activist Deniz Gumusel.
Tanks with flammable materials in the factory were emptied as a precautionary measure, a reporter with the Demiroren news agency said, and the ditch had been extracted as a fatebreak.
While most of the fires have been extinguished, local officials, many of them from the opposition to the People’s People’s Party (CHP), have complained that government responses are slow or inadequate.
The fire aircraft from Spain and Croatia joined the team from Russia, Iran, Ukraine and Azerbaijan this week to fight Blazes, after Turkey asked for European support.
Opposition parties criticized President Tayyip Erdogan and his government to attenuate firefighters for years.
Thousands also bring to social media calling for Erdogan to retreat, while others criticize the lack of resources and what they call inadequate preparation.
The government has defended its response to forest fires, by saying its business has been planned and coordinated.
