Chennai: Fireworks tend to get a minimum of 5% more expensive this year partly because of the increase in production costs and expected fireworks.
Traders said the cost of crackers from sources has increased by 5% to 10% this year.
S Shahul, the owner of the fireworks shop in Parry’s, said the cost of raw materials to produce fireworks has risen and this will reflect prices in stores this year.
Meanwhile, the annual Dewali Crackers Mart will open on Grounds Island on Friday for two weeks to 5 November while 55 kiosks will be arranged in the island yard, fire extinguisher services and rescue have received almost 100 applications for no Certificate of Objection (NOC) for stores – Such stores in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, and Tiruvallur.
By 2020, despite Covid’s fear, dealers recorded fast sales by needing requests a few days in front of Diwali’s day.
Traders hope this year’s good business too.
They hope to clean almost ₹ 125 crore in the city and suburbs alone.
T S Kaja Mohideen, the president who works from the dealer of the welfare dealer of Chennai Fireworks, said there would be no price increase in the early days and fireworks will be sold at last year’s level.
“But, the shortcomings that are thought to be in the arrival of crackers from civilization and increased demand can produce a price revision closer to Diwali’s time,” he added.
Meanwhile, Director of Personnel Fire and Rescue and DGP Karan Singha met with fire officers.
According to an officer, the city police will examine and issue Nocs to each trader from next week, the officer added.
