NEW DELHI: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court and sought a stay on proceedings in multiple FIRs filed against him for terming allopathy as ‘ineffective’ against Covid-19.
In his petition, the yoga proponent sought a stay of proceedings in FIRs lodged by the Patna and Raipur branches of the Indian Medical Association (IMA).
He further sought a transfer of these complaints to Delhi.

This comes close on the heels of Union health minister Harsh Vardhan writing to Ramdev, asking for a withdrawal of the statement in which he had deridedIn a controversial video, Ramdev was allegedly heard saying “allopathy is a stupid science” and medicines such as Remdesivir, Fabiflu, and other drugs approved by the Drugs Controller General of India have failed to treat Covid-19 patients.” In May, doctors upset over his remarks observed a black day in protest, and sought an open apology or action against him.
His remarks caused massive outrage, with the IMA sending over a legal notice to him.
IMA also said that the Union health minister should step forward and take action against his “unlearned” statements.
It was after a nudge from the Union health minister Harsh Vardhan, that he officially tendered an apology, and also withdrew his controversial comments about modern medicinal methods.
Ramdev’s firm Patanjali, had rushed to his defence and claimed that the statement being attributed to him by the IMA was false.
Ramdev has “utmost regards” for doctors and support staff who have been working day and night during such a challenging time of the pandemic,” a statement issued by the Haridwar-based Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust said.
