Ottawa: The first group of Afghan translators, the embassy and family staff announced Canada amid the threat of Taliban retaliation has arrived, Minister of Immigration Marco Mendicino said on Thursday.
Many Afghans who work with Canada and other NATO countries are afraid of the violence of the Taliban when US troops leave.
Canada announced last month that he would amaze Afghanistan in the middle of what was called a dynamic and deteriorating situation.
“Today brings a sense of hope, optimism, and relieved sigh for the first Afghan refugees that touched last night,” Mendicino said at a press conference.
Canada will not announce the names of the people involved or where they will be resettled again, he said.
Ottawa said several thousand people would qualify.
Washington said this week that thousands of Afghans might be the target of the Taliban because their US affiliates would have the opportunity to reciminate as refugees.
The Taliban has increased their campaign to defeat US-backed government since April as foreign forces completed their withdrawal after 20 years of war.
Canadian battle mission in Afghanistan ended a decade ago, after that the country certainly resetted around 800 Afghans who had worked for the country as a translator or other role.
