Vadodara / Ahmedabad: The State Health Department on Saturday announced that five cases of ‘Kappa’ variants from Coronavirus were detected in Gujarat.
Of these, three infections were found in Jamnagar and each at Godhra and Mehsana.
The government in the release stated that the sequencing of the genome samples of these patients, who had tested the positive Covid-19 between March and June this year, revealed that they were infected by new variants classified as ‘interesting variants’ by the Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR) , The Ministry of Health also traces those who come into contact with these patients.
“So far, no contact from those found by the infected Kappa variant has been found to have a Covid-19 symptom,” the department said.
One of the residents of the Panchmahal detected with the Kappa variant has died on June 30.
