Salem: Five people died and 13 others suffered a sustainable injury in the LPG Cylinder explosion in a house in the city of Salem Tamil Nadu on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as S Rajalakshmi, 80, from Panduru Koil Street in Karungalpatty, Karthik Ram, 18, Padmanabhan, 49, Devi, 39 and Ellummermal, 90.
The injured have been treated at Salem Mohan Kumaramangalam Employees Medical College and Hospital (SGMKMCH).
According to Shevapet police, a total of four families were in the two-story building in Karungalpatty.
An official said Rajalakshmi ignited a gas stove to prepare tea in the morning.
The cylinder explodes.
“The two-story building collapsed in the impact,” the official said, added that three other houses in the same line also collapsed in the incident.
People are trapped under debris.
Fire service personnel and rescue from the Shevapet fire station rushed to the place with the police.
“Rajalahshmi, who suffered a grave injury, died when taken to SGMKMC,” the official added.
The other four bodies are taken from debris in the afternoon.
