Erode: Five people, four of them women, killed and three others were injured after a truck that quickly collided with Omni van they traveled at Junction Kumaravasalu near Parappalary on Thursday afternoon.
Sivagiri police arrested the truck driver.
A police officer said the incident occurred when eight, seven of them from the same family, returned to Muthugoundampalayam in Van Omni after offering prayers at the Dindigul Dindigul District Temple in Palani.
“They went to the temple in the early hours.” Iniyappan aka Prakash, 24, Erode, is on the wheel.
“When they approached Junction Kumaralasu on Jalan Karur-Erode around 12:30 a.m., a laughing truck, who headed to Sivagiri from Erode, lost control and collided with Omni van, killing the four passengers of women and van drivers in place,” said the officer .
He identified the deceased when he was 20 years old from Momozhi, wife of Mohan Kumar, 27, from Muthugoundampalayam; TheIVANAI 55 years old, Mohanasundram’s wife, from Thanuthuppalayam, and her 19-year-old daughter Mananjula, a 50-year-old Arukan from Kulur and Prakash Village.
Three other passengers – Mohan Kumar, Kumarsan, and Mutthusamy – Sustainable severe injury.
Pedestrians reminded the police, who saved injured and took him to a medical college and a crunchy government hospital.
The body was also sent to the same hospital for postmortem.
Truck driver, M Manikandan, 41, has been arrested.
