Bhubaneswar: At least five people, including three families, were killed, and five others were injured in a head collision between the SUV and a truck in the Subarnapur Odisha district on Saturday, police said.
The accident took place on the Mahanadi Bridge on Saturday when 10 residents of the SUV returned home in Nimma Village in Blok Ullunda from Kaudiamunda Village, a police officer said.
Five of them died in place, while the remaining five were caught in the vehicle, and the police save them by using a gas cutter, he said.
The deceased was identified as a Pandia Assistant, Pramod Pandia, Siddhi Pandia, Trayambak Meher and Subham Pandia, who was a resident of Nimna Village.
Wounded people underwent treatment at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Vimsar) in Burla, he added.
