Thiruvananthapuram: Five more people, including minor, positively tested the Zika virus in the state, taking the total case of infection reported to 35, where 11 was active, the Health Minister Kerala Veena George said on Saturday.
One positive case was reported from Ernakulam, the minister said and added that the person concerned was a health worker in Thiruvananthapuram.
Until now all cases of Zika have been reported from the state capital.
The virus was confirmed in the test carried out in the Thiruvananthapuram Medical Higher Education Virology Lab, the National Virology Institute (NIV) in Alappuzha and the Microbiology Lab in Coimbatore, the Minister said in the release.
On Friday, a meeting was held by State Revenue Minister K Rajan and George about working together, along with the local government department, to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and to strengthen the Sanitation Committee at the environmental level.
