Karachi: At least three franchises of six have reported five new covid positive cases, including players and officials, ahead of the Pakistani Super League starting next week.
The six franchises have begun to gather in Karachi with Pakistani cricket boards launch the seventh edition of league on January 27 at the National Stadium in Karachi.
On Thursday, the source said that three franchises reported five positive cases of players and officials.
“This is the first positive case in Karachi among teams,” said one source.
Franchise Quetta Gladiator has lost three overseas signing including Shermon Hetmayer, James Faulkner and Luke Woods for their first match when the trio was tested positively and had become an isolation before they ride to Karachi.
A Pakistani council official explained that they were ready for all situations due to increasing Covid-19 cases in the country and the league was still on schedule.
“We have a clear contingency plan because of the Covid-19 situation around the world.
Even if franchises without seven to eight players because every case, their match will still take place on the schedule and the players will enter into their team hotel,” he said.
He said learning life with Covid was the reality now in cricket and although there are positive cases in various crickets that match the ongoing partner or delayed or rescheduled on a few days.
He showed that even the ongoing ICC 19 World Cup in West Indies has been hit by a positive Covid case but the tournament continues.
“All boards have compiled an emergency plan like we have so we believe that the PSL will be completed on schedule,” he said.
The last two PSL editions must be stopped and rescheduled because of Covid-19 cases in Karachi.
