Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commission (SEC) on Tuesday announced the date of Pancanti’s election, which will be held in five phases from February 16, but without demonstrations and public roadshows because of the surge in Covid cases.
The election will be carried out on alternative days while calculations will be held for three days, starting February 26.
For the first time, calculations will be conducted centrally at the block headquarters.
The code of ethics will remain valid until February 28, when the calculation will end.
About 2.79 Crore rural voters will use their franchise in the Three Level Panchayat polls to choose 91,913 members of the environment, 6,794 Sarpanches, 6,793 Panchayat Samiti members and 853 members of Zilla Parishad.

The selection was held at 846 Zilla Parishad zone in 2017, with BJD won 473 seats to become the largest party, while BJP was second by securing 297 seats by increasing manifold.
Congress can manage only to enter 60 seats.
Senior BJP leader Mohan Mahan said the party was fully prepared for Pancayat polls.
“The powerful party seems to be captured that people are not satisfied with him because it recently announced a series of steps to captivate voters.
Although all efforts, people will reject the powerful dispensation,” Majhi said.
Majhi also targets the state government to seize the reward class of their constitutional rights by not ordering seats for them in rural polls.
BJD member Rajya Sabha Amar Patnaik said the ruling party would comply with all covid restrictions worn by the poll panel.
“BJD is always with people.
Our government led by the Head of Minister of Naveen Patnaik always works for the welfare of the people.
People will bless them with them.
We are sure okay,” said Patnik.
The Suresh Routray Veteran Congress of the State Election Commission must ensure the implementation of a rural poll that is fair and impartial.
“People will punish BJP and BJD for an increase in important commodity prices.
People will bless this congress this time,” Routray said.
The three parties are expected to immediately hold a meeting to oversee the poll process and complete their campaign strategy.
