Coimbatore: Five men, who posed as an income tax official, cheats the owner of the mine with ₹ 20 lakh in Kinathukadavu here on Saturday.
They also took an iPhone, digital video recorder from CCTV cameras and six leaf checks from it.
“The gang of five members went to K Panchalingam’s house in Kinathukadavu around 1pm on Saturday and introduced himself as an income tax official.
They accused the Panchalingam of the Evasion Tax, took his cellphone and then locked his house from within.
They found ₹ 20 lakh cash and checked The leaves that Panchalingam has received from others in almirah, “said a police officer.
When Panchalingam asked them why they did not carry police officers to them, the officer said, they underestimated it because the police would arrest him and encourage him to prison for committing.
“Five wear formal clothes with a tie and use fake ID cards.
They often talk among them in English.” The gang tells Panchalingam to raise cash after sending the original document at the Income Tax Office in Pollachi and leaving the place.
When Panchalingam noticed that the vehicle used by the gang did not have a registration number, he became suspicious and told Kinathukadavu police about the incident.
The police have registered the case and launched a gang search.
