Panaji: At the end of the monsoon, all small and main reservoirs in the state, except one, are filled with capacity, ensuring enough raw water reserves for cave to winter arrives.
Even the surface of the water at the Tillari reservoir, crossing the border at Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, stands at 97%.
Goa receives 6% of excessive rainfall during this rainy season.
The official of the Water Resources Department said that this year, the reservoir overflowed in early August itself, because Goa received a large amount of rainfall in the first two months of the rainy season.
Water must be released from the dam to maintain a safe level in the reservoir.
However, at the end of the rainy season, the reservoir stands filled with more capacity.
The water level stands at 102% of the capacity in the Selaulim Dam in Ugem, Sanguem, which provides raw water to meet the needs of drinking water most of the South Goa.
Other major reservoirs in the state, in Anjunem in Sattari, are filled with up to 99% of capacity.
Panchwadi’s small reservoir was also filled with a capacity of 98%, while Chapoli and Dressem Reservoir in Canacona was 100% full, according to WRD records on Tuesday.
“In terms of Tillari reservoir, although the note shows it as 97% full, it is filled with capacity.
For security reasons, to maintain a safe level in the dam, water is released during heavy rain.
Now, the dam is allowed to fill up gradually,” said a person Official.
Reservoir Tillari provides water to meet the drinking needs and goa irrigation in understanding with the Maharashtra government.
Amthane in Bicholim is the only reservoir of six in the state where the water level stands less than half capacity.
The water level at Amthane Dam is currently 41%.
Immediately, pumping water to the Dam from the Sal River will start filling the reservoir.
“As an increase in supplying raw water to the assnora factory, when there is no rain, the water enters less and water comes out more,” said a WRD official.
“This leads to a decrease in the surface of the water because of the request at the Assnora factory.
The pump is stored at a higher and safe level during the rainy season, to make them not sink, it will be dropped now and pumping from Sal to Amthane will begin soon.” Assnora plants meet Bardez taluka drinking water needs.
