Jodhpur: Five people died and two others were injured in an accident on the road on Jalan Raya Jodhpur-Jaipur near Dangiyawas on Sunday night when their vehicle collided with a truck.
Two people died in place, while the other three surrendered on the way to the hospital in Jodhpur.
What is injured is undergoing treatment and is said to be stable.
The truck driver, however, escaped from the place after the accident.
The police have won the truck and launched hunting for him.
The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Singh, Narendra Singh, Manohar, Gopal and Dharmendra, while injuries including Sikandar Singh and Chandan Singh.
They belonged to Londar Malgaon Village in the Beach Sub-Division of the Ajmer District and returned to their village from Jodhpur.
Daitiyawas Sho Kanhaity said the accident occurred around midnight on Sunday when the passenger vehicle drove trying to follow another vehicle.
“In an effort to follow, the driver increases the speed of the vehicle, but fails to assess the distance of the truck that comes from the opposite direction and collides with it,” the officer said.
He said the collision was very intense that the vehicle turned into a crushed iron mass and all victims were trapped in it.
The villagers and police, who rushed to the place, had difficulty attracting the victims.
The accident took place at a highway where half of the roadside was closed because of civil work and traffic flowed at the end halfway.
