Chennai: The day after announcing the exam date for the National Feasibility Test (NEET) 2021, the All Indian Council for Technical Education (AICTE) issued a revised academic calendar for 2021-22 for college engineering on Tuesday.
According to the schedule released by the Secretary of AICTE member Professor Rajive Kumar, the first round engineering counseling, the BTECH program must be completed before September 30.
The second round of counseling techniques needs to be completed before October 10.
First year students are recognized until October 20 and the last date to start the class for first year students is October 25.
According to experts, with the NEET exam scheduled on September 12, conducting medical counseling before engineering counseling is also impossible this year.
It will leave several hundred engineering seats in the upper engineering college in Tamil Nadu empty as students who are not sure of getting a medical chair will join the Top Engineering College and stop it after getting medical reception.
Last year as many as 276 students were stopped, Btech courses at the four campuses of Anna University including the College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG) and Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) to study medicine and other courses.
Anna University Former Deputy Chancellor M Surappa said the only solution to prevent chair waste is to conduct medical counseling before engineering counseling.
“Aicte must consult with the National Test Agency (NTA) and exit the right scheduling to prevent the engineering seat from falling empty.
Even though it takes it to Aicte’s notification, there is no improvement that has been taken this year,” he said.
Many private engineering colleges also have 50 to 100 empty seats if medical counseling is done before engineering counseling.
“If the technical counseling is done first, students choose engineering seats for safety and leave their seats after getting medical reception.
About 100 students stop their courses in the top universities every year,” said RM Kishore, Deputy Chairperson of RMK Engineering College.
Unlike Anna University, private engineering colleges can fill this chair on the next stage.
However, the principal said they could not fill all empty seats after receipt for the technical course was over.
“Scheduling is the main problem.
The current schedule forces students to make one choice even though they don’t want to,” said a principal from City College.
Meanwhile, it is considered a university to face different challenges as acceptance to IIT, nits are being carried out in several rounds and students abandoned this institution after taking acceptance to join the institutions funded centrally.
“The Ministry of Education and Aicte reduces counseling to IIT and the institutions funded centrally for four rounds or need to allow all institutions that ATTE approved to recognize 10% more than approved intake.
This will reduce the damage caused by the delay in Josaa counseling counseling (seat authority Together) and a longer schedule.
