Ahmedabad: Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) from the Tri-Country – New York area, New Jersey and Connecticut – On August 15 marked the 75th Independence Day in India by lifting Tricolor at Times Square in New York.
It was the second year in a row that the organization held this event.
This year, the flag was bigger – to be 6 feet 10 feet – and appointed on a 25 foot pole.
The flag was sent to the US from Ahmedabad, said the organizer.
Indian Consul General Randhir Jaiswal raised tricolor as hundreds and those present with respect as a national anthem played.
“We also got the biggest jumbotron at Times Square to display the messages of independence day,” said Chairman of FIA Ankur Vaidya.
“The country’s imperial building lights up in the color of the Indian national flag, while later FIA organizes her annual gala on a cruise ship on the Hudson River.” Anil Bansal, President of FIA, said it was the privilege and freedom that as Americans celebrated their history, culture and love expressed for the motherland.
This year, the new chapter of FIA in New England also celebrated independence day with Diaspora.
