Beleagavi: The District Government has been looking for detailed reports of Bhagwa Dhwaj or Maratha flags that fly in Nippani City Municipal Corporation (NCMC).
The flag was first appointed in May 1990 and since it was still there.
The Director of the District City Development Cell Project has been written to the NCMC Commissioner looking for a detailed report on the flag after reviewing the issue under the Karnataka Kotamada Law (KP).
“I direct to submit a detailed report that review problems under the 1964 KP Law along with the required documents,” said the letter.
The objection about the flag has come when there is a request from Pro-Kannada’s clothing to ban Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti, socio-linguistic clothing with the roots in the Batagavi which has been accused of damaging the symbols related to the Kanarataka cultural icon.
The problem of flag became known after a RTI activist, Gadad Bheemappa, filed a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner MG Hiremator Beleagemav demanded the removal of the flag.
Bheemappa told TII that under section 372 A from the KP Law, flying flags besides the non-constitutional national flag.
He handed over a memorandum on this land, he said.
In a response to RTI’s request on the flag, Nippani CMC said the corporation began to lift the flag after this was decided by its members in May 1990 and there were for years.
