Beijing: Hundreds of flights were canceled in Beijing as a school and tourist location closed due to heavy rain and gale-force wind on Monday.
The city authorities issued a warning to residents to stay at home because the Chinese capital faced the biggest storm this year.
As many as 100 millimeters of rain are predicted throughout the day in several regions, and Variflight Tracker Aviation records around 700 flights canceled at two city airports.
The weather authorities warned “extreme rainstorms” plus thunder and lightning since the end of the week to Monday night in Beijing and neighboring areas.
A landslide was recorded in one of the northern districts of the city, with CCTV state broadcasers showing pictures of roads blocked by fallen rocks.
Heavy rain responded to efforts to clear the road, according to State TV.
Children live at home as a city kindergarten, elementary and secondary schools closed on Monday.
Popular attractions including part of the large walls are also closed, with several districts suspending the countryside homestay.
Some automatic beijing driving trains will be operated manually, the word media said.
The rain storm also reached the neighbor of Tianjin City, where the state TV shows a driving electric scooter through the flood and black sky on a flash of lightning regularly.
The weather authorities have warned flooding in 14 rivers, including tributaries in Sichuan and Shaanxi.
General flooding occurred during the Chinese rainy season, with a higher water level in August last year washed away and forced tens of thousands of their homes.
But threats have deteriorated for decades, partly because of the construction of dams and embankments that have cut relationships between rivers and lakes and floodland which have helped absorb a summer surge.
