Hyderabad: Three of the 17 FloodaTes of Himayayathsagar Reservoir opened at around 4pm, on Tuesday, after the inflow reached a full reservoir level of 1764 feet.
Hyderabad’s unrelenting rain for more than 48 hours has caused a heavy entry flow to the HimayathSagar reservoir, one of the sources of drinking water to certain areas of the old city and part of the city of Hyderabad.
This is the second year in a row that the water gate of this reservoir was opened.
In October 2020, when the city had witnessed the worst floods, the officials of the hyderabad metropolitan water supply and waste boards (HMWS & SB) opened all 17 water gates gradually.
“Currently four doors are opened to a height of each one foot, releasing excess water, Ravi Kumar, Director-Technical, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS & SB),” Toi said.
Based on the inflow, we will open more floodgates, he said.
However, the inflows of the past week to the reservoir, and officials ensure the situation of inflows every hour, said senior official HMWS & SB.
Meanwhile, red alert was heard in six mandals including Golconda, Bandlaguda, Asifnagar, Nampely, Charminar and Himayathnagar, located along the Musi River, where several regions may be affected by opening the door of the Himayathsagar and release excess water.
