Kolkata: The retail price of vegetables in Kolkata remains below checks, without much fluctuations on Monday.
However, from Tuesday, the scenery tends to change drastically.
“First, there will be a decrease in price because farmers will make the sale of depressed products taken from the laying field.
After that, there will be a sharp surge in vegetable prices due to demand supply gap,” said Kamal de, the President of the West Bengal Bengal Vendor Association.
The rain before his time has left a vegetable field throughout South Bengal, causing extensive damage to planting stands.
Winter vegetables are susceptible to rotting.
During winter, occasionally there is rain.
Even if it rains, it doesn’t last more than one day, add de.
Subal Saha, vegetable vendors in the lake market, said: “Our assessment is that after a few days, the price of vegetables is ready to rise 30% to 40% because the demand will exceed the supply.
We have reported that vegetables such as eggplant (brinjal), bitter pumpkin (ucche ), cauliflower and cabbage are the worst.
“Burdwan, one of the largest agricultural districts in Bengal, also reported the loss of widespread standing plants.
Officers of the Department of Agriculture and East Burdwan Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Sampa Dhara and Local Mlaas visited several blocks for the initial assessment of plant damage.
Blocks such as Burdwan (I), Burdwan (II), Khandogosh, Raina (I), Raina (II) and Jamalpur received a large amount of rainfall, leaving a vast agricultural land channel under rainwater.
The farmers looked at huge losses.
The source of the Department of Agriculture Burdwan Timur said that 50,000 hectares of rice land, 36,000 hectares of potato land and 29,000 hectares of land were hit.
Even though there was no fresh rain in the middle, water from agricultural land refused on Tuesday.
Seeds sown by flasks rot in the fields.
“We consider the extent of losses in the agricultural sector,” said a district agricultural official.
In Hooghly, a vast channel where mustard, cauliflower, cabbage and flat beans are sprinkled, suffering large losses.
The real assessment of plants can be ascertained on Thursday, said a district official.
In fact, vegetables from other countries such as peanuts (punjab), capsicum (up), tomatoes (nasik), beans (ranchi) and drumsticks (Gujarat) may be cheaper.
The areas in the western part of India, who suffer from unlimited heavy rains, have come out of the poor phase, said Gopal Sonkar, wholesalers in the Koley Market.
