Floods: CM Moots plan to move people

Pune: Head of Maharashtra Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday said that considering the incidence of landslides, the state government would come up with a plan to change and move people living in hilly areas.
He also said that a policy would be formulated for water management as part of the country, especially the West Maharashtra region, witnesses of floods during the rainy season due to rising water surfaces.
Thackeray spoke to reporters in Tatiye Village in Raigad District, where a landslide on Thursday night had claimed at least 37 lives so far.
“Given the incident (landslides), people who live on hillside and hilly areas will shift and move.
A plan will be made to shift small settlements from such places,” he said.
In addition to Tatiye village, large landslides have occurred at least in five other places in the state during heavy rains in the past few days.
Two other incidents occurred in the Raigad district, while the other three have occurred in the Satara district.
Five bodies have recovered so far in landslides in Ambeghar village in Satara.
Thackeray said, “The flood was witnessed in Maharashtra Barat during the rainy season due to rising water surfaces.
Therefore, a policy will be formulated for water management in this region.” He said the government would accelerate the process of rehabilitation and compensation for affected people flood.
Ratnagiri Regency and Raigad bear the maximum burden of heavy rain and floods produced.
The minister’s chairman convinced all assistance to the victims and their relatives who lost their lives during the flood.
“You will be taken care of.
Don’t worry,” he told the villagers.
