Floods kill at least 11 people in the capital of Ecuador

New Delhi: At least 11 people were killed and 32 were injured on Monday after the toughest flood to hit Ecuador in almost two decades triggering a massive landslide in the capital Quito, the authorities said.
Torrents of water carrying stones and mud sweeps the road in the city of Ecuador, washed the car and flooded the house and sightseeing, according to the image released by emergency services.
Heavy rain caused the structure of water collection of overflowing, sending deadly flow to the nearest hillside to sports land where some people practiced, the authorities said at a virtual press conference.
Quito Mayor Santiago Guarderas initially said, “There were eleven people dead, 15 injuries and we had eight structures collapsed”.
But the authority of the municipalities then revised the number to 32 who were injured and added that the affected family had been placed in a local shelter.
The flood began on the slopes of the Pichincha volcano, which faced the national capital.
Guarderas said Monday rainfall was reduced 75 liters per square meter after 3.5 liters on Saturday, with predictation predicting two liters per square meter.
This is the “number of records, which we have not had since 2003” he added.
The affected area also loses power after the electric pole is dropped by the flood.
Heavy rain has reached 22 of the 24 Ecuador Provinces since October, leaving at least 18 dead and 24 people injured, according to national risk management services.
Scientists say climate change intensifies the risk of heavy rain throughout the world because the warm atmosphere has more water.
