Fluoride, arsenic Found in groundwater in 3 UP dists

LUCKNOW: Fluoride pollution in groundwater has been discovered to be dangerously full of Sonbhadra, the second largest district of Uttar Pradesh, although high arsenic toxicity has spanned eastern districts of Gonda and Basti.
In three districts, the quantity of pollutants from groundwater is dangerously high with values listed several times greater than permissible limitations, shows a study performed by the Geological Survey of India (GSI), southern area, Lucknow.
The research had been conducted by a group of five geologists directed by GSI manager (geology) Abhinandan Srivastav.
Back in Sonbhadra, GSI completed the analysis in the south-western area of the district where over 200 trials were gathered by handpumps and molds.
In about 20 villages, peppermint contamination has been discovered twice of permissible limitations, particularly in cities across Govind Ballab Pant Reservoir.
The existence of large acidity in groundwater has caused health problems such as tooth decay, discolouration and yellowness of teeth, including joint pains and dental fluorosis among villagers.
“In cities such as Jhapar, Siswa, Bichhiari and Pindari, Insulation contamination was shown to be 3milligram a litre (mg/litre), that will be twice of the statutory limit of 1.5mg/litre according to the Bureau of Indian Standards,” stated superintending geologist, GSI, Suparna Hazra.
In three continents, Pipri, Dhaurahwa and Sonwani, an insatiable 5mg/litre of pus was discovered in groundwater, ” she explained.
In Gonda and Basti, large arsenic toxicity has resulted in health problems including hyperpigmentation, keratosis on the hands and only and hearing loss.
Back in Gonda, villages decreasing in Nawabganj, Tarabganj, Paraspur, Haldarmau along with Katra Bajar cubes recorded 20-25 times greater arsenic contamination compared to permissible limi he greatest contamination of approximately 250 parts per billion (ppb) was discovered in three locations: Gokula village, Bhihanpur Kalan Temple and also Gosain Purwa.
The suitable limit of arsenic in drinking water will be 10 ppb only.
In Basti, many areas of Captanganj, Bahadurpur along with Kudraha cubes listed elevated arsenic contamination.
The highest concentration of 250 ppb was seen at Agauna village.
GSI implied that rainwater harvesting could be practised and pretreated rivers could be used for distribution to rural families in these regions.
