Coimbatore: A flying squad used by City Corporation on Saturday seized 17.5 lakh from a passenger car at Sungam Junction.
It was the first main seizure by flying troops, using the election of the upcoming urban city agency.
Fifteen flying troops, three each in five corporate zones, have been deployed to ensure goodile all the time.
A team led by V Sureshkumar with the commercial tax department has stopped H Sadakkadullah Hameed, who brought the money.
He did not carry any supporting documents for cash investigations to be carried out to find out the source of cash and the purpose of being brought, the official said.
Meanwhile, corporate commissioner King Gopal Sunkara conducted a training program for Zon officials and assistants who would be involved in election work, in the corporate auditorium at Puram Hospital.
Officials will train other staff to be involved in election work.
The training will be carried out in all five zones on Monday.
