New Delhi: The temperature jumped on Thursday, ending the longest cold day spell experienced by various regions in the city since the last 7-10 days.

Misty conditions can continue, said the Meteorology Department of India (IMD).
The IMD also estimated the possibility of rainfall in Delhi and its surroundings between the night of January 21 and the morning of January 24 because of the passage of Western disorders active in the region.
“The city will also see strong and south east winds on January 22 which can reach up to 30 kmpj,” said RK Jenamani, senior scientist at the comm.
Jenamani added that the formation of fog and the cloud layer had blocked the sun above a larger area starting from Lahore to Dhaka, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi from January 11 to 20.
This is one of the longest episodes that ever happened and a rare phenomenon.
Since December 14, most parts of the city watched 13 consecutive cold days.
The last time a long cold spell was witnessed in December 1997.
On Thursday, the minimum and maximum temperatures were 19.1 and 9.8 degrees Celsius, against 18.1 and 7.4 degrees Celsius the day before in Safdarjung.
“Cold day conditions have ended in Delhi because the maximum temperature has increased and the sky is rather clear,” said Jenamani.
Officials said several flights were delayed at IGI airport, but “there was no interference in service or flight cancellation that occurred”.
Meanwhile, air quality deteriorates in the “very bad” category.
The air quality index (AQI) on Thursday was 387 against 322 the day before.
“AQI is expected to remain very poor because the temperature and wind speed tends to remain almost the same.
Possible rain on January 22 and January 23 with Gusty winds that lead to wet deposition and strong dispersion.
This will result in a significant increase from AQI to the poor, “Safar said.
