Nagpur: The cost of Navin Paul RS1.5 Crore to treat his mukormycosis infection after Covid.
But he still finally lost one eye and most of his facial bones, which leads to severe disinfision, and has now run out of resources to complete the reconstruction operation.
Paul is an employee of the middle-level state government.
To treat mukormycosis, he got a RS1 crore from the train, because his wife was hired there.
The rest of RS50 Lakh is his own money.
However, the train scheme does not cover reconstructive procedures or operations to restore his face.
There are no such plans with the state government.
Even money for his eyes made from his pocket, Paul said.
There is no medical government scheme that includes reconstructive operation, which is considered a cosmetic procedure.
Only care is paid, he said, adding that he might need another RS8 lakh for facial reconstruction.
Likewise, Abdul Sadik, a retired teacher of Zilla Parishad, also suffered from Covid and Mucor infection.
Without insurance, and more than RS5 Lakh has spent time, the family has delayed reconstructive surgery, said his son Sajid.
There are a number of patients like that, which has been drained from funds from treating covid and mucor infections, and are left with defective faces for removing bones and eyes but no money for further treatment, say doctors.
There is no government scheme that includes reconstructive procedures.
Some insurance companies provide cover, but the treatment of expensive mucor itself has run out of the cover of most patients, say doctors.
It was lowned that the Dental College government had sent a proposal to fund the procedure.
Awaited decision.
Commissioner of the Nagpur Prajaka Division Lavangare said the proposal to use CSR money accumulated in the Development Fund Vidarbha was also in the process.
RS1 grant to RS1.5 Lakh can be provided.
The first priority is most likely for the economically weaker part.
The source said the average cost of care came to around RS3 Lakh, with around 12 components used, where a single screw was worth RS25,000.
Dr Harish Rathi’s senior dentist said the full reconstruction of the facial structure was possible through surgery.
Need a rather comprehensive study of case cases for cases.
The cost is on the higher side because the material used must be sustainable for the long term.
The use of advanced technology also adds costs.
Funding crowd can be one of the options to fund these treatments.
The government scheme must also be introduced, he said.
Dr.
Bipin Dehue, a maxillofacial surgeon, said as much as 40% to 50% of patients had delayed their treatment only due to financial constraints.
This is not just cosmetic treatment.
Prosthetics also has functional use in the body.
A number of small aspects such as load bearing capacity must be taken into account for implants.
It is also a challenging task for doctors as every case as a nuance itself.
Among other cases, a farmer in Yavatmal said he was now left with only one hectare of land after he sold 3 hectares to meet care costs RS28 lakh.
Unable to talk or chew properly, he does not understand about arranging more funding for treatment.
Other state government employee said he had only waited a government scheme to complete the operation of her husband.
