Footfall Dips 50% in NE Airport After COV Test Curbs

Guwahati: The decision of the state government in the Northeast asks for a required RT-PCR test report about every passenger or Covid testing on arrival, has produced around 50% of walking on foot on NE airport since December last year.
However, in Assam, despite providing relaxation in passenger testing double double doubles, the number of leaflets has dropped in the past month because the third wave is intense.
Data obtained from the Indian Airport Authority (AAI), stated that on December 19, a total of 228 passenger flights operated in the northeast, carrying 27,600 passengers.
Although flight operations remained unaffected until January 10 when the number of daily flights operating in the region rose to 242, the decline in passenger footsteps was very clear at 20,500.

On January 20, the number of flights operating in NE dipped in 188 and the passenger legs fell up to 13,000.
Flight operations continued to fall and fell to 176 on Monday (January 24), despite marginal increase in passenger movements to 14,800 in the region.
Passenger footsteps at the largest airport in the region in Guwahati now stand around 7,600, which is a decline of more than 50%, compared to the appropriate number in December last year.
Guwahati Airport contributes around 50% of the total footsteps at the northeastern airport.
Sources in AAI said relaxation in Covid Curb by the state government is needed to facilitate passenger movements in the northeast, where a large number of tourists.
“Marginal improvements in Covid situations in countries such as Assam and Tripura show that the operation and footsteps will increase, especially from the first week of February,” said an official.
In Manipur said all air passengers who entered the state carrying a negative RT-PRC test report conducted within 48 hours after arrival, while in the state, Assam’s restrictions, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura, RT-PCR test reports must be made within 72 Hours of travel.
