Ahmedabad: For the 15th year in a row, Manoj Bhavsar looks binding a security cable on the city bridge to minimize injuries caused by motorists with kite strings.
“AMC gave me a hydraulic truck to repair metal cables on both sides of the bridge.
This cable is upset the string of kites down and prevent them from harming riders,” explained Bhavsar, who works as an AC technician and runs the Mission Safe Uttarayan Foundation.
This year, he has tied a security cable to 29 of the 50 city bridges.
The 51-year-old son said, “We tie the cable to the electric pole on both sides of the bridge.
However, a newer bridge has an electric pole in the middle of the divider.
So we have put up banners on this bridge, asking people to drive carefully .
“Bhavsar spends around Rs 2,500 per bridge because they need a 15kg wire to cover one side of the bridge.
“People are very generous with donations,” he said, adding to: “It is important to educate people about spoiled dangers.
If people rise slowly during this time, fatal accidents can be avoided.”
