Ahmedabad: From October, the upscale sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Ahmedabad will be more expensive.
The AMC income committee has suggested a vehicle tax increase.
The tariff is 3%, but now it has been proposed in the range of 3.5% to 5%.
For example, vehicles that cost Rs 15 Lakh will be more expensive by Rs 7,500, while those who cost Rs 50 Lakh and above will be more expensive by Rs 1 Lakh.
To prevent people from buying an upscale car, the Civic body has decided to climb vehicle tax for a lifetime for vehicles in the price range of Rs 15 Lakh to Rs 50 Lakh.
At present, vehicle tax stands in a flat 3% of the basic value of the vehicle for all personal four wheels.
From October, vehicle buyers in the price range of Rs 15 Lakh to RS 24.9 lakh must pay 3.5% of the base price.
Vehicle buyers in the price range of Rs 25 lakh to RS 49.9 lakh must pay 4% of the base price.
Vehicles for RS 50 Lakh and above will withdraw 5% tax from the base price.
The proposed tax structure will be implemented starting October 1.
“As part of the National Air Quality Monitoring Program (NAQMP), we have decided to release vehicle taxes for electric vehicles (EV),” AMC official said.
“We hope this will encourage buyers to choose EVS, reduce pollution from burning fossil fuels.” There is no change in vehicle tax for two-wheeled, autorickshaw, loading pedicab, tempo of four-wheeled loading, and mini trucks.
The AMC income committee will provide a proposal to increase vehicle tax, which will be taken to the approval of the permanent committee and will eventually be sent to nod the state government.
