KABUL: The presence of foreign terrorists, who have been affiliated with the Taliban have threatened security, especially in areas in the northern region of Afghanistan on the border with Tajikistan, according to members of the Afghan government peace negotiation team.
Fawzia Koofi, a member of the Afghan delegation who in talks with the Taliban in Doha, on Thursday said rapid action must be taken towards the existence of foreign fighters in the border area, Tolo News reported.
“Now foreign terrorist activities and movements have increased more than time before the border region and in strategic locations that have been under the control of Taliban, unfortunately,” Koovery said.
Guerrillas, reported with a bond to Tortorist Tajik group, present in several Badakshan districts including Kufa AB, Shekay, Nusay Maimai and Khawhan, Tolo News reported quoting reports from Radio Azadi.
During the latest Taliban attack in early July in North Afghanistan, Tajikistan citizens affiliated with Jamaal Terrorist clothing Ansaruflah Tajikistan (JAT) fought with the Taliban.
It was referred to as ‘Taiban Tajik’, these extremists were led by Mahdi Arsalon, and had been borne for five districts in Badakhshan Province, namely Kufa Ab, Maimay, Nusay, Khiswah and Shiki.
The Taliban last week claimed to have control over 90 percent of the borders of Afghanistan with Iran and Turkmenistan.
However, the Afghan government has been dismissed as a Taliban horn on border control which is close to total.
Meanwhile, Russia also expressed concern about the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan.
Previously, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and his colleague Tajik Sherali Mirzo was in the capital of Tajikistan Dushanbe discussed joint steps to be taken to neutralize threats from the Taliban.
Russia has also sent military equipment to the border area between Tajikistan and Afghanistan to prevent possible threats from the country.
About 1,000 Russian soldiers will take part in military training that Tajikistan will host August close to the border with Afghanistan, with Uzbekistan’s participation, said the Russian Central Military District on Tuesday as reported by Sputnik.
In other developments recently, China expressed her hope that the Taliban would fight against militants “East Turkestan Islamic Movement” (ETIM).
