Nagpur: The Ministry of Forestry has planned RS1.40 Crore plans to seek funds from the Gadchiroli (DPDC) District Planning and Development Committee to handle situations arising from the conflict of human-elephants and the right management of habitat.
Head of State Warden Warden Warden Sunil Limaye, who was visiting Gadchiroli on Monday with the Stripes and Green Earth Team (Sage) Foundation from West Bengal, “a 20-21 flock of elephants moved in more than 1,800 hectares in several bags in the Dhanora forest range South.
Even because we do not bother them, there is a need for sustainable monitoring.
“Limaye said the Deputy Conservator Gadchiroli would submit RS1.40 Crore plans to find funds from the DPDC to monitor and preserve elephant habitat.
“We plan to formulate short-term and long-term plans to protect habitat and build staff capacity and train people.
At present, we monitor animals with the help of camera traps and drones,” he added.
Elephants shuffle in the forest area around Kanhartola, Munjarkundi, and sisur.
Even though Tuskers accidentally robbed rice, plants were damaged when they moved through the field.
Until now, the department has paid more than RS1 Lakh against compensation to farmers for plant damage around 15-20 hectares.
The wise team led by Samelik Sengupta who visited the area suggested tight monitoring from a herd with all the details of their movements with timings and reasons to stay at the location.
The team observed that her herds were very different from other herd of migration from Chhattisgarh who were in Madhya Pradesh.
“This herd is very tame and their attitude is different from other herds.
Until December or January, strict monitoring needs to be done because there are opportunities, the herd will try to move from the area where they are.
We have proposed to monitor and study the pattern of movement and Also the nature of the herd, “said Sengupta.
Limaye said, “The funds we have searched will be used for forest development and maintenance in the forest, taking plantations, preparing the main response team (PRT), awareness programs, the elimination of faster crop damage compensation, making the right ID from every individual inside Flocks by clicking on the image.
In terms of elephant movements to the village, we will temporarily replace them to Pucca’s house.
“The herd of around 21 elephants had arrived at Gadchiroli after 300 years.
According to forest officials, this herd began in 2014 from Odisha and had to cross Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh before entering Gadchiroli.
Elephant is a heritage animal and has been included in the schedule of wildlife (protection), 1972.
‘Project Elephant’ was launched in February 1992 to overcome the threat to the survival of elephants in our country because of the loss of habitat, migration paths, and ivory hunting.
Elephant reserves are not recognized based on the law.
