Former British Open Winners Zach Johnson will miss this year’s championship at Royal St George in Kent after testing the positive Covid-19, said R & A on Monday while announcing two more withdrawals.
South Africa Louis de Jager has also been forced out because of a positive Covid-19 test, while Ryan Moore’s last minute qualification recovered from a back injury and would not appear.
The trio will be replaced by Sam Horsfield, Dylan Frittelli and Adam Long.
“I was disappointed announcing that I had tested positive Covid-19 and had to withdraw from the open championship 2021,” Johnson, who won open in 2015, wrote on Twitter.
“I hope to return to St.
Andrews next year, where I have wonderful memories.
Good luck for all competitors.” The Masters Government of the Hidki Matsuyama champion and the winner of the two Augusta Bubba Watson also announced their withdrawal on Sunday after testing the Coronavirus positive.
