Chennai: The teacher must be a lifelong student to remain relevant in the world that has changed quickly to form students for future needs, said former Isoro Mylswamy Annadurai scientist on Saturday.
Annadurai took part in the final of the 2021 teacher’s advantage award, an event carried out by the Times of India and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in Coimbatore.
Thirty-one teachers from various parts of Tamil Nadu were chosen for awards under various categories.
Teachers teach class X, XI, and XII are chosen for awards.
There are 2100 selected 90 entries.
The jury panel chose the winner.
Annadurai, who is now the vice president of the Tamil Nadu State Council for science and technology, said the teacher could not limit their role to teach concepts and subjects.
They must inspire students to form them into the best engineers, doctors, administrators, and selected representatives.
With the world change so fast, there is a need to improve its own skills once in ten years according to current requirements.
“You can survive today with whatever skills you learn yesterday.
If you don’t update today, you might not remain relevant tomorrow.
Someone needs to improve the skills to meet the terms of the world that has changed every 10 years,” he said.
Annadurai said he had taken part in clay art competition when he was in class II.
He made artwork featuring a man with an Indian flag on the moon.
It was time when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon.
A teacher appreciates him with some paiwan and pencil for the novelty of his idea.
“I’m not a great work of art.
But he appreciates the idea behind it.
Appreciation brings me all the ways to reach heights in my life,” he said.
He said that even though he was a school topper, the level of trust was low when he joined the graduation course because everything was taught in English.
A Tamil teacher gave him confident words.
“The teacher said I should not feel ashamed I learned in Tamil.
I have to be proud of language, which is one of the oldest languages.
English is just another language, which I can learn immediately.
The teacher is none other than Sirpi Balalasubramaniam, who receives Padma Shri award recently, “said Mylswamy, who is also the Padma Shri Award receiver.
