Township Dryden: Former Michigan Congressman who came out of the Republican Party to protest GOP’s efforts to cancel Joe Biden’s victory over Donald Trump had died.
Paul Mitchell died on Sunday, according to a statement given by his family to CNN.
He is 64 years old.
In June, Mitchell told the WJR radio station that he had been diagnosed with kidney cancer and survived high-risk operations to eliminate the mass and blood clots near his heart.
He said he would start immunotherapy against cancer.
“I am very proud of him and never more than that when he is a voice alone in the ocean of politicians who care more about strength than the actual definition of the office,” his wife said Sherry in the statement.
Mitchell, from small cities in Lapeer County 40 miles north of Detroit, serves two terms representing the 10th district in the Michigan thumb area but did not seek re-election by 2020 – quoting the desire to focus on his family and express frustration with time in Washington.
In December, approaching the end of the second term, he left GOP and became a false claim in the midst of the independent Trump that he defeated Biden.
“It is not acceptable for political candidates to treat our election system as if we are the third world country and incite distrust of something that is so fundamental as the sanctity of our voice,” he said at that time.
“Congressman Paul Mitchell serves Michiganders with integrity, carrying the midwest grit to the capital of our country into championship issues that are important for our country and its people,” said Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser Monday.
“Always strong in his belief, his leadership serves this country well.
The most important thing, my prayer is extinguished to those who call him husband and father during this difficult time.” A retired CEO of vocational school companies, Mitchell spent millions of wealth to win in 2016.
There will be no public funeral.
His wife urged people who wanted to respect him to donate money to the local foster agency.
