Former Mysuru deputy commissioner Rohini Sindhuri violated norms by building pool, says probe

MYSURU: Former Mysuru deputy commissioner Rohini Sindhuri did not obtain necessary clearances before constructing a swimming pool at the DC’s bungalow, Jala Sannidhi, a heritage property, according to a probe report by Mysuru regional commissioner GC Prakash.
The regional commissioner who probed the case said the then DC had violated norms by not seeking clearance either from the heritage department or the empowered heritage committee before taking up the construction.
The probe was ordered by revenue secretary N Manjunatha Prasad following a complaint from JD(S) legislator SR Mahesh.
The probe report concluded that the project did not have any public interest to qualify for a pilot project as the swimming pool was not meant for public.
Sindhuri told TOI the report she submitted to the regional commissioner is self-explanatory and added the original allegations about the source of funds for the project are found false.
She said work was not taken up during Covid as is submitted in the RC report.
Earlier, Sindhuri had said the facility was built at the bungalow as a pilot project of the government-owned Nirmiti Kendra and had stated that the allegations are motivated and baseless.
The probe report noted that the project was launched on December 30, 2020 and completed on February 26, 2021.
On March 2, 2021, the project was approved during the general body meeting of the Nirmiti Kendra.
Following the submission of the report, JD(S) leader KV Mallesh, who first made the allegations, asked the government to initiate action against the officials responsible.
He stated that the officials should be held accountable as public money is involved.
This comes amid another probe ordered by the government into renovation of the bungalow.
‘I have forwarded the report to the revenue minister for a decision,” Manjunatha Prasad told TOI.
