Former PM Malaysia, Najib can seek re-election to parliament despite confidence

Kuala Lumpur: Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has not ruled out the election back to parliament in the next two years, he told Reuters in an interview, which was not exiled with the confidence of corruption that would block it.
Najib graft party, United Malay (UMNO) national organization, won the Premiership last month after being overthrown from power three years ago with a multi-billion dollar scandal.
Opponents have expressed concern that party leaders who face charges can secure a punishment after returning in control.
Najib, who served as Prime Minister for nine years until 2018, was found guilty of corruption last year and was sentenced to 12 years in prison for many of the many cases of misuse of funds from 1MdB state funds.
He denied the mistake and had submitted a request for a verdict.
He was still a member of parliament but the Constitution pushed him from choosing it to fight unless he received forgiveness or suspension of punishment from the king of the country.
But talking to Reuters on Saturday, Najib challenged the disqualification that said: “Subject to the interpretation.” “It depends on the interpretation in terms of law, the constitution and whatever happens in the court process,” Najib said.
Asked whether he would take the next election due in 2023, he said: “Every politician who wants to play the role will want a seat in parliament.”
