NEW DELHI: The government is very likely to create former Supreme Court judge Arun Kumar Mishra as the new chairman of the NHRC.
The choice is very likely to stick to a meeting of the selection panel which happened on Monday.
Former IB Director Rajeev Jain along with also a former Chief Justice of the high court could be new members of this apex rights figure.
The selection board, which includes the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and also Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, admitted the titles but Mallikarjun Kharge has been learnt to have dissented.
The Congress leader proposed a ST/SC or minority ought to be named as an associate of this Commission, asserting that the majority of the complaints regarding rights violations pertain to those communities.
On the other hand, the additional members have been reported to have disagreed with their own need.
Kharge said while there wasn’t any such provision in the Act, these titles were not barred from appointment and advocated the board meet again to talk about the appointments.
After his request was turned down, he’s learnt to have filed his dissent.
