Bankura: Former TMC Minister and former Chairman of the City of Bishnupur Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was arrested on Sundays for allegedly involved in financial irregularities to almost Rs 10 Crore.
Mukherjee joined BJP in November 2020 but did not get a ticket to oppose the assembly poll.
He lost the 2016 state poll on Trinamool tickets.
Mukherjee, who is the chairman of the municipality for five requirements since 1990, was found involved in the practice of corruption in the processing of tenders involving the deflectation of Rs 9.9 Crores, said Bankura SP Dhritiman Sarkar.
Bihsnupur SDO Anup Kumar Nanda has filed a complaint to irregularities in the tender process during the Mukherjee period as chairman.
The local court returned it in police custody for four days.
SP said Mukherjee was charged under the IPC section.
GOOVE Defense Advisor Prasad Biswas said he had been involved.
The Chairman of Trinamool Regency Santra Santra Sanra said Mukherjee had passed the bill without doing any work.
“He handed over a utilization certificate but there was no work done.
The law will take its own path,” he said.
BJP District Head Sujit Agasty said: “What Mukherjee did was when he was in Trinamool.
So why is the police so late in acting?”
