Geneva: Timea Bacsinszky, former number nine world, announced his retirement from tennis on Friday, with a 32-year-old Swiss who said it was time to turn on the page.
Bacsinszky won the Olympic silver medal in the women’s doubles in the Rio 2016 game, working with Martina Hingis.
He hasn’t played since September 2019 in Seoul – Singles Career Finishing by losing 6-0, 6-0 from Kristie Ahn from the United States – and his world ranking has dropped to 517 at the time of retirement.
He suffered a back injury and then the Covid-19 pandemic stopped his momentum when the comeback appeared on the card.
“I retire from professional sports today but I will never forget the luster that I have in my eyes,” he said on Twitter.
The best Grand Slam Bacszky show came in the French Open, reaching the semi-finals in 2015 and 2017.
