Ghaziabad: Four men, who allegedly robbed people after offering them up at the Autorickshaw, were arrested by Ghaziabad police on Monday.
According to the police, the defendant was identified as Ashwani alias Jeetu (24), Sanjay (22), Suraj (21) and Rameshwaram aka Ankit (24).
They rob people as gangs for the past six months.
Gyanendra Singh, SP City-2 told TOI that the gang was usually operated in a group of two-three – one of them listened to the autorickshaw while the others posed as a passenger.
“Together, they will look for unsuspecting victims, traveling alone – outside the train station, metro station and standing bus,” he said.
“When they found someone who was looking for a ride, the others were accused, sitting as a passenger, bringing the victim’s hostage, knocking it down with gunshops and throwing it in an isolated place,” the officer added.
The arrest came after the December 20 incident when the defendant robbed income tax officers after hitting him with the ass of the weapon.
The defendant took his wallet containing Rs 1,000 and cellphone and dumped it in the Sahibabad area.
Vedprakash Sharma, a resident of Indirapuram, left the office at 7:30 p.m.
and reached the Kaushambi metro station where he was looking for an autorickshaw to go home.
An elevator offered by the Autorickshaw on Kaushambi offered him a ride and as soon as he sat inside, he was responded to by ‘passenger’, who grabbed his bag.
When Sharma tried to fight, he was beaten and threatened to the point of the weapon.
He was pushed out of auto in the Sahibabad area) from the IPC and under the relevant weapons.
